So I've decided to continue writing and posting updates for anyone who still looks in occasionally and of course this also becomes a record for myself....better than a diary I reckon!..just a bit more Public!
This is our 6th week at Wonga Caravan Park and we have settled in nicely...
We are both employed again...I am working back at Ozcare Port Douglas and Hans is working for several companies as a naturalist tour guide again.
Last week we 'knocked' the internal dividing wall out of the caravan, so now you could say we have 'open plan living'...
We intend to take our time and renovate the inside to suit our 'needs' better...utilising the available space to our best advantage.
Waking up to the sun coming over the sea and the sound of waves lapping (we don't get big surf here!) just 10 metres away, is heaven...although the last week or so there's been more exciting stuff like flashes of lightening, the rolling of thunder and the sound of wind and rain!...Yes the Wet Season has begun!!
A distant storm over Snapper Island.
Basically here we have 2 seasons..Wet and Dry...when its the Wet season, its very very wet and in the Dry, you got it, its very very dry!
I love the wet season as it comes with awesome colours...the fiery orange flame trees against the dark grey/blue that clouds the hills as storms brew...the frangipanis in all different colours, poinseanas in full flower, canna lillies popping their heads up to put on a show, the umbrella trees are flowering...the lushness and greeness now the rain has come...everything is refreshed and growing....And Mango's a plenty YUM!....You can eat yourself silly on them!
Christmas has been and gone again for another year (thank goodness I say!)
I worked Xmas day but came home to join in the relaxed celebrations in the camp...Hans went and shared Christmas day with his family in Kuranda.
Christmas Day Wonga ...
Christmas Dinner in the Happy Shack!
Then it was down to the beach to relax in the sea breeze as the sun went down.
Merv,Ridley,Pat and Lyn
Bob and Jean in the forefront and the rest...
My mate Al (Alan)
It's outside Al's caravan that each afternoon we gather for Early Openers...for those who like to partake in liquid refreshments before Happy Hour at 5pm...
The sign on the tree there is in memory of Al's wife Annette who died earlier this year..
Over the week of Christmas we had neighbours on the site next door...Cat and Rune.
They are travelling around the world...Cat is from Scotland and Rune is from Norway...They were a delight to have in the camp..
In Norway apparently, they celebrate Christmas on the 24th...so Cat and Rune set up outside their campervan on the 24th and had Christmas Dinner with Norwegian Music ringing out from their van...the 25th was their Australia Christmas day, which they celebrated with us in the Happy Shack...for them it was strange to experience Christmas in the heat and humidity.
So thats a quick update on how we are going now in this beautiful part of Australia we now again call home.
