'Time Out' In Port Douglas

Have been away for a week ....Had a 'wee' holiday in Port Douglas ( the area where I work) with Mum, who flew up from the Gold Coast.

She arrived the day after the Melbourne Cup.
To add to the fun of that day, all the residents in the village where she lives, hand-made their hats to wear to the event. Here are a couple of the creations!

Mum

Susan (Mums neighbour)
Mum and I stayed in a lovely 2 bedroom apartment in the Bay Villas Resort...Our balcony 3 floors up, overlooking the pool...

Of which we both made good use of several times a day...
That's Mum sunbathing, or as they say here in Australia 'sunbaking'....

We went to the camp several times during the week..Mum had never seen 'Millie' our caravan and the camp where we live...

And, of course we had to stay and have a few 'sessions' with the regulars at Early Openers! This 'session' was interupted by a rain burst, so we sheltered at Patricks digs!

As you can see the camp population has dwindled...

The 'Tourist Season' in the Far North is coming to a close again as the 'Wet Season' approaches.
What people don't realise, is this is also a very exciting and beautiful time of the year to visit here...
With the tropical rains comes the proliferation of growth and lushness of the vegetation...the flowering of the many trees..The Flame trees,The Poinciana's,The Rain trees, the Cassia's, Bangkok Rose...all against the backdrop of lush green mountains and hills draped in misty clouds...the rainbows...the heavily laden Mango trees, the fruit of which just falls to the ground or along the roadsides...the waterfalls...The huge variety of Ginger's both native and exotic bloom spectacularly during this season...Several of which I received in a beautiful flower arrangement delivered to the apartment from Rachel and Jeremy for my birthday...

Yip...52 years young now!...
