Mitchell Falls to Derby.

Back on the Gibb River Road...

Camped in a beautiful spot tucked away off the road next to the Hahn River which was still flowing...surrounded by a beautiful Pandanus garden....Watch Billy Connolly DVD next to a roaring camp fire....laughed till the tears rolled down our faces...it couldn't get much better!

The Kimberely area is home to the Ta Ta Lizard...a little lizard that sits on rocks in the sun and literally waves with its hand!...so cute to watch! Maybe its a contagious trait, because out on the backroads there's almost a waving culture!

There is of course the famous Aussie fly wave..
The choking imaginary wave when a car passes you either way and you can't see for the dust cloud for the next 50 metres...
There's the campfire wave when the wind turns and the smoke comes straight toward where you're parked in your camp chair...
Then on the road you have:
The one finger waver ...
The full hand waver...
The peace sign waver...
The tired waver who just slightly tilts his hand...can easily be missed!
The Non waver...he's either over waving or having a bad day!
So I guess you could say "Everyone is on a different wave length!"

Side tracked and found a few beautiful Gorges...one of these being Adcock Gorge.

The bird life in these spots is awesome...
Saw these tiny little carnivous plants that catch their 'prey' by exuding a sticky fluid which attracts passing insects and then traps them with the stickiness...

Sundew plant.

Got into Derby late afternoon....booked into a cabin and before unpacking anything, shot down to the Derby wharf to watch our first sunset on the west coast of Australia!

We done it!...crossed Australia east to west....and taken the 'scenic' route...travelled around 6000kms to do it!...Awesome!

It was delightful to have a hot shower after 5days with no facilities..sure, we washed in rivers and creeks but you can't beat a nice hot shower!
Saw this cool painting on the shower block wall...
Contacted a friend of a friend in Derby....Kathy...'Kiwi Kathy' and her two beautiful children Mikka and Lee, who have opened their heart and property to us...And here we have been for the last 3days...relaxing and 'coming down' off the road...

Kathy's place.

We have our own dwelling...and have already developed what will be a life time connection with these people...Kathy has many stories having travelled round this huge country on her own...her adventures, her experiences have kept me spellbound!
Hans has already put some of his many talents to use...rebuilding and fixing Lee's go kart!
While I write this he is doing a photo session with Mikka and Lee!
I've already been 'called out' to check on an eldery sick gentleman that lives alone, that a neighbour was concerned about!...see you can never get away from it!
